Park&Co president wins award at 25th annual ADDY Awards Gala
Park Howell didn’t even want to enter the “Ad Person of the Year Competition,” the annual contest held by the Phoenix chapter of the American Advertising Federation.
“I feel like I haven’t achieved enough yet,” said Howell, the longtime Phoenix ad executive. That modesty combined with his success is what’s driven his agency, Park&Co over the past 15 years and it’s ultimately what won him this year’s honor.
Since 1995 when Park opened the doors of Park&Co in a modest carriage house in his backyard he knew what he wanted to do. Great work with great people for great causes. The result has been a resume marked with achievements for a variety of clients from Goodwill to Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport to Metro Light Rail and Forever Living Products.
Despite the success and growth that’s taken Park from the carriage house to a 10,000 square ft. office space in the heart of the Arcadia District, what matters most to Park is the people around him, both clients and staff.
In a two-year span that’s seen budgets dwindle and staffs cut across the industry, Park marks this last two years as his best, “I’ll never forget looking out at the staff at our end of the year party in 2008 and wondering how we were going to get through this mess,” said Howell. “We pulled together and a year later, despite the conditions, I was looking across all the same faces at the end of 2009 and even a few new ones. That’s when I knew we’d achieved something special.”
Much like the outlook that’s brought him to this point, Park feels this award is more a reflection of the people he works with than his personal success. “I’ve caught a few breaks,” said Howell. “But the great people that surround me each day are the ones responsible for my success and this award. I’m more proud and happy for them than anything else.”
